I got to practice more French this morning with a group. We chatted from about 9 to 12:15 when I went to the train station to catch my ride to Nice. Got to a pretty nice hostel that hosts some good events that will help me immerse myself more easily. It's been harder than I thought to strike up conversations with others for a couple reasons; one my confidence waxes and wanes and I've run into people, who when I start speaking French to them want me to resort to English. However, when I do get to have a full conversation with French speakers, they don't have an issue understanding me like a few would have me believe. So I don't know if it's thin patience or a moment of severe errors on my part that makes some people prefer to use English but every now and then I get to enjoy the challenge of extended conversation with a little help now and again from Google Translate.
There's going to be a speed dating thing tonight although the event was mistakenly written under Friday. I'm planning to give it a shot even though it will be more for the positive experience and a good story than high hopes. I do hope to meet someone, but I never feel like it will be when I am actually looking or trying... We'll see how the night goes.
Tomorrow, I plan to go on a free walking tour after breakfast and I can't wait to explore the city with others and not get lost! I know I talk too much about it but I can enjoy the place more when I know I can make my way back to the hostel without an hour long detour.
