During this beautiful day of sun, clouds and a little rain, I finalized my plans for the weekend. This Friday I am taking another carpool to Lyon, 5 or 6 hours south-east of here. I know some people who live a train ride away from there but I don't know yet if I can visit them. In the mean time, I have reserved nights at another hostel. After 3 nights or so, I plan to head to Marseille if there is indeed a high-speed train available. I want to see all the sights at both Marseille and Montpellier and they are practically side-by-side along the Mediterranean. I've already traveled about that far to get from Gaillon to Angers.
Anyway, I had heard that Lyon has the best food which sounds strange to foreigners like me who believe that all of France has the best food. Of course, all European food wins against most of the things available in the US because it's all super fresh and without preservatives. Maybe it's just that more people know how to cook over here. We no longer have home-ec classes that teach us things like sewing and cooking and we rarely learn from our parents. I have been getting spoiled by the food here and pretty consistently over-eating. It's been hard to rein myself in when it all tastes amazing. Except for the blood-sausage, the texture was just as off-putting to me as the taste and the name. In French it's Boudin Noir.
Looking forward to seeing a new city!
